Often touted as the crème de la crème of multi-day cycling experiences in NZ, prepare to soak up spectacular vistas from Aoraki Mount Cook all the way down to the Pacific Ocean, whilst avoiding some of the more demanding pieces of the A2O.
About this tour
Taken at a relaxed and easy pace over the most forgiving of the iconic trail sections. There’s time to leisurely explore the glacial lakes and alpine towns along the way, whilst riding high on your sense of cycling accomplishment.
Based on the A2O cycle trail, this achievable 203km tour winds its way through the stunning scenery of the Southern Alps. Star gaze in an International Dark Sky Reserve and ride triumphantly into Oamaru’s quirky Victorian district. The Alps 2 Ocean trail is generally gently downhill (we skip the harder sections), and the prevailing wind should be behind you for an extra boost.
Admire the engineering of the Waitaki Valley hydro scheme
Star gaze in the ‘Aoraki Mackenzie international dark sky reserve’
Cycle beside sparkling aqua blue glacial lakes and hydro canals
Step back in time in Oamaru’s splendid Victorian Precinct
Beginning in picturesque Tekapo, the Alps to Ocean Easy tour takes advantage of the most forgiving sections of the trail, and passes through Twizel, Lake Ohau, Omarama, Sailors Cutting, Kurow, Duntroon and finishes at Oamaru.
“Amazing trip, beautiful scenic views. Accommodation was great and the food, wow, fantastic. The south Islanders certainly give you huge meals and so delicious!”
